This painting represents a love story full of challenges and deep determination of the people who love lilacs. The story started long ago around 1880 with a Victorian Farmhouse and country gardens that now comprise the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens.

The national historic site is located in Woodland, Washington. You will have to go to the gardens to get the full feel for happened on this land that brought people together to preserve this lovely site.

I went to the lilac gardens with several other painters one sunny weekend and painted and felt how deep this historic site went into me and my painting. I stayed all day painting, walking, and taking in the scent of lilacs. It is one of my very pleasant memories.
